ecko7 is a small app with a long list of things it refuses to do. what is left has to carry the whole feeling on its own, which is why almost everything we are hiring for is motion, and why we ask about rive rather than about a reel.

motion designer: creature
wewe is a rig, not a sprite sheet: every pose is a state machine with a mood coming into it. you would build it in rive (state machines, blend states, listeners) and hand over something the app drives with a number, not a timeline. deep rive experience is the whole job.
remote/full time
motion designer: typography
a word finishes and becomes something else: a colour, an emoji, a brand mark, a photograph. the change has to happen without the cursor ever feeling it. rive for the transitions, and a real opinion about easing at 60fps on a four-year-old android.

the app has almost no chrome, so the few things that do move carry all of it: the seven o'clock freeze, the reader, the loader that is a swift in flight rather than a spinner. rive assets, exported small, running on-device.

one typeface, three colours, no icons. you would own the whole surface (the app, this site, the pressed-flower photography) and spend most of your time arguing things out of it. comfortable enough in rive to hand motion a file they can actually use.

how we work
small on purpose
the whole app is one repository, and it is meant to stay legible to one person on a bad day. we would rather delete a feature than staff it.
no growth team
there is no analytics in the app, so there is nobody whose job is to make a number go up. what we know about how it is used, we know by asking.
motion is not decoration
it is how the app says everything it refuses to say in words. that is why three of these four roles are motion, and why we ask for rive rather than for after effects.
seven o'clock
we use it. the thing about a product that freezes your day at seven is that you find out quickly whether you believe in it.
one week, start to finish
send it on a monday and you will know by friday. we are four people: there is nobody here for a process to wait on.
monday
you send the form. a person reads it, not a filter.
tuesday
a reply either way. no silence, ever.
wednesday
one conversation, an hour, about something you have made move.
thursday
a small piece of real work, paid, on your own schedule.
friday
a decision, and the reasons for it.
